Vertex is currently accepting applications for a full-time, permanent Accountant for our office in Calgary, Alberta. The successful candidate will provide financial expertise and support to the Controller; playing a key role in overseeing all reports, financial functions and process improvement opportunities. The role reports directly to the Controller.
Bachelor of Commerce with Accounting or relevant post-secondary education with extensive work experience
4-7 years in an accounting role, supervisory experience is considered an asset
Experience with environmental and engineering industries
Strong knowledge in financial, operational and cost reporting and analysis
Experienced in budgeting, forecasting and business process
Strongly proficient with Accounting software, especially in Word and Excel
Experience with Deltek Vision is an asset
Knowledge of USA GAAP payroll is an asset
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
Highly organized and self-motivated
Ability to develop, nurture and maintain strong relationships with vendors, agencies and various internal stakeholders
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Cash Management including recording deposits, AR collections bank reconciliations
Responsible for AR billing support including data entry and finalizing invoices
Responsible for monthly Intercompany reconciliations
Assist in the delivery of accurate and timely financial and operational reports
Responsible for month end, journal entries, reconciliations and financial statement preparation
Provide business analysis from data converted to information that allows key stakeholders to make strategic business decisions
Assist in monthly KPI analysis
Assist in budgeting, forecasting and support of operational planning processes
Assist in improvement initiatives around internal system processes and controls in order to streamline and reduce inefficiencies of financial processes
Assist in the documentation and implementation of internal controls to ensure consistency of policies and procedures
Facilitate the development of direct and indirect reports through the provision of continuous coaching and mentoring
Assist with the year-end audit process
Other related responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time
This position will be located out of our Calgary downtown office.
