Barrel Oil Corp is a privately held, Calgary-based energy company focused on the exploration, production, and processing of oil and natural gas in Western Canada. Founded in 2019, the company has experienced significant growth through acquisitions and asset purchases, expanding production from approximately 200 boe/d to more than 7,500 boe/d.

Position Overview

Barrel Oil Corp is seeking an intermediate to senior Area Geologist to join its technical team. This full-time position is based in the Calgary office and reports directly to the Vice President, Exploration. The successful candidate will work closely with an experienced, multidisciplinary team of geoscientists, engineers, and land professionals to support exploration and development projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Area Geologist within a multidisciplinary team, identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing development and growth opportunities
  • Conduct regional and detailed geological mapping to support drilling decisions and reserves estimation
  • Integrate geological and geophysical data to generate high-quality oil and gas prospects
  • Monitor land sale activity and proactively pursue opportunities, including land sales, land swaps, farm-in/farm-out prospects, and A&D initiatives
  • Collaborate with land and engineering teams to plan and execute drilling programs, including preparation of pre-spud geological packages and directional well plans
  • Maintain full accountability for geological operations, including leading horizontal well planning and providing real-time geo-steering support during drilling operations
  • Maintain area inventory, develop annual budget proposals, and prepare high-quality technical presentations for management review and potential sales processes

Qualifications

  • BSc or higher degree in Geology
  • Professional Geologist (P.Geo.) designation with APEGA, or eligibility for registration
  • 10+ years of industry experience, with preference given to candidates with development experience in Alberta Deep Basin plays
  • Hands-on experience with horizontal well planning and execution
  • Strong background in stratigraphy, reservoir mapping, reservoir analysis and characterization, and reserves determination
  • Proven track record of successful development and exploration prospect generation
  • Forward-thinking, innovative mindset with a strong focus on contributing to company growth
  • Experience using geoSCOUT or similar subsurface data platforms
