POSITION SUMMARY The Business Intelligence Specialist’s role is to strategically design and implement Business Intelligence (“BI”) reporting, software and systems (“Solutions”), including integration with SQL databases. This includes selecting, blueprinting, gathering requirements, designing, and rolling out BI solutions to end users with training. The Business Intelligence Specialist is also responsible for ensuring high levels of BI availability and quality through support functions and in-depth testing.

- Assess and cultivate long-term strategic goals for BI development in conjunction with end users, managers, and other stakeholders
- Conduct research and make recommendations on BI products, services, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
- Evaluate and select appropriate BI tools to meet the long-term strategic goals for BI development
Operational Management
- Create, manage and update existing reports and other functionality to maintain on-going operational effectiveness. This includes utilizing BI tools such as the following to work with Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 and other O365/M365-based data:
- SQL queries, views, functions and stored procedures
- SSRS reports developed in Visual Studio
- Atlas (Insight Software)
- Microsoft Power Apps, Automate and Forms, with SharePoint Online and Teams
- Troubleshoot BI tools, systems, and software; performance-tune these applications as necessary
- Direct, organize, and run projects in the implementation and use of new BI software tools and systems, including Power BI
- Lead the integration efforts for merging BI platforms with enterprise systems and applications
- Design, code, test, and document all new or modified BI reports, systems, applications, and programs
- Develop the semantic layer, metadata, reports, and report definitions
- Assist in the design of databases and custom building of SQL-based data warehouse to ensure interoperability with BI solutions
- Analyze user requirements and, based on findings, design functional specifications for BI front-end applications
- Produce ETL design guidelines to ensure a manageable ETL infrastructure for any BI systems
- Work or act as project manager on BI software tools and systems enhancements or implementations to ensure that requirements and data management meet business needs for project completion
- Design and deliver end-user training and training materials; provide technical support as necessary
- Act as evangelist for BI benefits across the organization; promote BI usage to relevant departments
QUALIFICATIONS Education & Experience
- College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science, information systems, or computer engineering, and/or related work experience in IT, Accounting or Business Administration
Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum of 4 years direct work experience
- Comprehensive design experience with relevant BI applications, databases, data warehouse methodologies and/or data modeling
- Strong ability to analyze and document user requirements, and build user-facing BI reports and applications according to specifications
- Excellent working knowledge of SQL queries, views, functions and stored procedure design
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel functionality and VBA
- Strong understanding of relational database structures, theories, principles, and practices
- Full project management and development life cycle experience
- Experience with Microsoft Power Suite, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, Atlas by Insight Software, and/or SSRS/Visual Studio is desirable
- Proficiency with flowcharting and other metadata documentation techniques
- Skill in presenting information and training to users in easily-understood phrasing and format
