Overview 
Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Sherwood Park office is recruiting for a Corrosion Control Technologist.  This position reports to the Supervisor, Corrosion Control in the Pipeline Integrity Department, part of Pembina’s Technical Services Unit (TSU) Department.  TSU manages a comprehensive integrity management program, which includes asset integrity, geotechnical, asset management, product quality, process safety and document control.

As a key contributing member of the team, the Corrosion Control Technologist is responsible for technical analysis, oversight, planning and execution of work related to management/mitigation of internal and external corrosion of several pipeline systems.  

Summary of Responsibilities 

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Responsible for overall planning, execution, and tracking of cathodic protection and chemical inhibition & internal corrosion maintenance pigging components within defined operational districts of responsibility;
  • Planning and coordination of annual CP surveys, including participation in survey execution;
  • Data quality management, analysis, and review during survey execution;
  • Deficiency identification, tracking, and repair;
  • Monthly rectifier surveillance execution, data analysis and review;
  • Bi-monthly critical bond surveillance execution including data analysis and review;
  • Install, commission, maintain, troubleshoot and repair cathodic protection or corrosion systems;
  • Perform required diagnostic testing such as but not limited to shorted casing, interference testing;
  • Oversee and work with contractors to complete field work in a safe and productive manner;
  • Planning, coordination, and tracking of chemical inhibition batch applications;
  • Review of chemical inhibition batch recommendations with pipeline integrity team;
  • Provide maintenance pigging frequency recommendations for internal corrosion mitigation in collaboration with the pipeline integrity team;
  • Develop and maintain leading and lagging KPIs;
  • Participate in annual budgeting and long-range planning;
  • Complete program and survey technical analysis and reporting as required;
  • Review annual external corrosion program with stakeholders;
  • Review annual internal corrosion program with stakeholders; and
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer or Certified Engineering Technologist or comparable industry experience with minimum AMPP CP 2 certification;
  • 5+ years’ experience with cathodic protection;
  • Preference for additional experience and qualifications related to internal corrosion;
  • Understanding of and practice in identifying and managing risks;
  • A passion for educating people to work more safely;
  • Ability to influence and achieve results through others;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational and planning skills, facilitation skills and computer skills;
  • Innovative, analytical and detail oriented;
  • Proficiency in MS Suite of products and Teams;
  • Ability to analyze data and draw conclusions to assist operational leaders in making more informed data-driven decision-making; 
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize a high volume of competing tasks in a fast-paced environment while managing stakeholder and sponsor expectations; and 
  • A team player with ability to build collaborative working relationships with various stakeholders across organizational boundaries from executives and operational leaders to Operators and Trades.

This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing.  You will also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract. Frequent travelling to field locations is an expectation of the job.

The successful candidate must live within 50 km of Sherwood Park, Alberta.
