COATING INSPECTOR (Pipeline Construction Project)

PROJECT ROLE

The focus of the Field Coating Inspector role is to monitor the coating crews and observe the joint coating applications and coating repairs are completed in accordance with the Construction Specifications, Coating Standards, as well as the project approved Coating Inspection Procedure.

PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIES

Pre-Construction Input & Preparation
Supervise the pre-construction training and orientation of project field personnel
Plan and organize spread set-up and resources
Undergo inspector training and orientation program
Review coating specifications and procedures for the project
Review and understand project reporting requirements for coating operations

Monitoring of Contractor Performance During Construction
Complete Report daily
Ensure that weld areas are properly cleaned prior to joint coating
Coordinate joint coating activities with the Repair Welding Inspector to obtain pipe section clearances
Ensure that preheat temperatures, blast cleaning, and weld area preparation are completed in accordance with the Construction Specifications
Ensure that joint coating products are handled and stored in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations
Ensure that joint coating product is applied in accordance with the Construction Specifications, Coating Standards and the manufacturers’ recommendations
Confirm that coating repairs are completed in accordance with the Construction Specifications, and the manufacturers’ recommended specification
Ensure that adequate protection from poor weather conditions is available on the ROW and effective (e.g. protection from high wind creating dusty conditions and rain)

Measurements or Observations to be Taken
Preheat parameters
Metal profiles
Joint coating thickness (where applicable)
Sleeve adhesion (where applicable)

Special Considerations
Ensure that tarps or other devices are in place to catch any joint coating product which may drip on to the ground
Ensure that surplus coating material and containers are disposed of in accordance with contract conditions

Post-Construction Project Resolution and Close-out
Assist in claims resolution
Identify deficiencies for future action
Coordinate data collection and provide report to Owner
Provide post construction evaluation and lessons learned document
Review base estimate and schedule to actual and provide feedback
