PetroChina Canada (PCC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of PetroChina Company Limited which is partially owned by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), a state-owned enterprise. CNPC is China’s largest oil company and the world’s third largest oil company, operating 91 energy-related projects in over 35 countries and regions. PCC has invested billions of dollars in an asset-rich portfolio of upstream, midstream and downstream operations. In Alberta, this includes our MacKay River and Dover oilsands projects, Duvernay Shale Gas and a 50% interest in the Grand Rapids Pipeline. In British Columbia, we hold joint venture interests in the Groundbirch tight gas project and LNG Canada.
PetroChina Canada is recruiting for a Lead Operator to join the Duvernay Team. This is a field-based position with a rotation of 15 days on/13 days off.
The Lead Operator will be responsible for daily production operations and project activities while meeting production and capital project targets. The Lead Operator will support in optimizing plant and field efficiency, performance, troubleshooting and project commissioning schedules.
The accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for safety issues including hazard identification, equipment lock-out, emergency response, drills, and contractor inspections
- Lead/organize safety meetings, production meetings and continuous improvement teams
- Lead in development of area/site specific procedures
- Support implementation of new training material and module updates
- Provide leadership, promote team building and mentor field staff
- Responsible for delegation of day-to-day operations
- Troubleshoot process problems and identify opportunities for improvement and optimization
- Track and maintain key performance indicators such as production and downtime
- Monitor and control field processing conditions utilizing SCADA control systems
- Responsible for coordinating contractors such as maintenance crews, vacuum trucks, and tank trucks with operations
- Review work orders with maintenance personnel and coordinating scheduling of maintenance
- Ensure effective communication and support with operations, maintenance, construction, engineering and management staff
- Maintain proper documentation including operator log, maintenance records, safety and environmental reports
- Provide Superintendent and O&M Coordinator support in aiding the Development/Property Teams with development plans and day-to-day operational and infrastructure advice
- Act as operations Liaison for capital construction projects
- Participate in design model, drawing and HAZOP reviews
- Assist with MOC projects
- Provide daily construction progress updates to the O&M Coordinator:
- Provide design input with respect to operations, reliability and maintainability for the project facilities
- Support and participate in vendor equipment and package reviews, shop inspection during the procurement cycle and performance testing
- Review Cygnet control programming and graphics
- Assist in planning and safe execution of construction, pre-commissioning, mechanical completion and turnover from construction to operations
- Write and develop commissioning procedures (LOTO, GALT, and Purge) for Tie-in, Start-up and Critical tasks
- Interface between construction and operation team
- Lead pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, performance testing and handover to operations
Qualifications:
- 3rd Class Power Engineering preferred
- 10 years’ experience with a background in operations, project commissioning and technical management
- Exposure to unconventional gas operations and/or project experience an asset
- Evidence of strong leadership skills and ability to influence
- Results orientated with effective delegation abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work well with diverse personalities and work force
- Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment
- Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritize work to achieve them
