TECHNICAL SPECIALIST I – CEMENT LABORATORY SERVICES – CALGARY (CA2)
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting entry level tests and analyses to support well cementing field operations.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that Trican’s core value, “We won’t put anyone in harm’s way” is the priority in all activities
- Perform basic laboratory testing without supervision
- Operate and maintain basic laboratory testing equipment as directed
- Conduct various general laboratory duties as requested such as cleanup, maintenance, and calibration
- Comply with all laboratory policies and procedures while performing functions within the laboratory environment
- Present blending recommendations to internal coordinators, technical services, and sales departments as required
- Prepare various cement reports and documents based on analysis of various laboratory tests
- Stay current with all API specifications and industry guidelines
- Provide technical support to various internal Trican contacts
- Deliver presentations as required to technical services
Experience & Skills:
- Post-secondary Degree or Technical Certificate related towards the Petroleum Industry
- 2 or more years relevant laboratory/industry experience
- Affiliation with international organizations in completions, well cementing, and oil and gas industry related is an asset
- Experience in well cementing preferred
- Technical and practical knowledge of cement operations, products, company policies, and government regulations preferred
- Knowledge of various forms of cement materials or components such as flyash, etc. preferred
- Admirable interpersonal skills conveyed in a pleasant and professional manner when interacting with employees, management, and customers
- Sound analytical and interpretational skills
- Problem-solving techniques to complications that may arise
- Skilled in mentoring while exhibiting motivation, coaching, delegation, and training
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Ability to prioritize multiple activities with tight deadlines
- High attention to detail
- Able to work independently, at a fast pace and produce quality work

Working Conditions:
- Regular office hours, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Participation in an on-call rotation for after-hours laboratory duties as well as providing assistance or advice at any given time
