Engineering Intern – TSU (July 2022) (Calgary, AB, CA)

Overview
This role is an engineering developmental role to support the Pipeline Integrity team in the Technical Services Unit (TSU) located in Calgary, Alberta. This position reports into the Manager of Pipeline Integrity.  

Note: This is a 12 month contract position.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The primary areas of responsibilities, tasks and expected deliverables with respect to this position include but are not limited to:

  • Data analysis support for Pipeline Integrity Specialists;
  • Finalizing and formatting In-Line Inspection Dig Plan reports after final dig selection by the Specialist;
  • Reviewing monthly cathodic protection readings to ensure regulatory compliance and identify non-compliances to determine corrective actions;
  • Reviewing third-party crossing requests to gather necessary pipeline integrity information for Specialists to determine action plan;
  • Supporting long range integrity plans and annual integrity budget analyses;
  • Monthly Pipeline Integrity and Geotechnical KPI report preparation;
  • Data gathering to support Integrity Management Program updates and risk reporting;
  • Monthly correlation of data and unity plot creation; 
  • Integrity excavation final report QA/QC and database updates; and
  • Promote Pembina’s EDI (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) initiatives.

Qualifications 

  • Full or partial completion of third year of a four-year accredited Engineering program;
  • Committed to learning and working hard in a results-driven team environment;
  • Past experience working as part of a team (work related or extra-curricular) would be considered an asset;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint;
  • Good technical writing skills a strong asset;
  • Demonstrate understanding of basic principles related to engineering; and
  • Previous experience working in an engineering environment would be beneficial.

Final candidate will be required to undergo a background check; including a criminal record check.

Crew Foreman

POSITION SUMMARY The primary function of the Crew Foreman is to provide direction, on-floor leadership and continuous improvement of the production processes, procedures, and equipment. A Strike Crew Foreman provides leadership and scheduling, and coordinate, supervise and ensure the safety and productivity of a larger crew.    PROJECT DETAILS

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Directly supervises all floor personnel and directs the flow of work through the shop
  • Participate in scheduling and work place planning
  • Manage and maintain client relationships
  • Participate in safety/incident investigations and reviews
  • Identify needs and deficiencies in the plan/schedule and communicate this to the appropriate people
  • Ensure quality and inspection of installation
  • Apply project procedures, work site policies and collective agreement requirements
  • Complete quality reports and required statistics
  • Inform the Superintendent of any out of scope work
  • Provide crews with adequate supervision to accomplish tasks in a safe effective manner
  • Coordinate manpower movement within their area
  • Ensure all workers receive the proper training

QUALIFICATIONS Experience/ Education

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years’ experience as a qualified and a Red Seal certified journeyman pipefitter
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of supervision experience is required in a fabrication shop/ field environment 
  • CSTS, H2S Alive, Fall Protection, AWP, First Aid

Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience with the MS Office Suite
  • Capable of setting and managing priorities to meet all deadlines
  • Strong coordination skills and organization skills
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid drivers license
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol test

Journeyman Rig Welder

POSITION SUMMARY Strike is looking for B-Pressure Rig Welder Journeyman with relevant experience in oil & gas construction/facility maintenance.  Typical welds include joining components such as beams, girders, vessels, and piping, and all jobs are completed as per welding procedure specifications, weld maps and work packages.   • Work with non-destructive Testing Inspector
  • Conduct repairs, modifications, and retrofits
  • Welding of pipe spools with an emphasis on Safety, Quality and Production while working in accordance to client specifications and Strike’s weld procedures
  • Monitor parts usage and report on any material issues

  • B-Pressure ticket and CWB certification
  • Possess a valid Journeyman certificate of qualification issued by the appropriate province or federal authority

Welders Helper

POSITION SUMMARY Strike’s welder’s helpers assist skilled trades persons and perform labour activities in and around the Bonnyville project site.   PROJECT / LOCATION DETAILS

  • Based out of Whitecourt
  • Shift work of 17/4

  CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES  

  • Performs any combination of the following duties to assist workers in welding, brazing, and thermal and arc cutting activities: Moves and gathers work pieces (pipe materials), setting up pipe, helping fir spools, interpret acorn drawings.
  • Lifts, moves and holds, or clamps workpieces to table, into jigs, or into position as directed, manually or by using hoist, pry bars, wrenches, hammer, and wedges.
  • Cleans workpieces to remove impurities, such as slag, rust, and grease, using wire brush, portable grinder, hand scraper, or chemical solutions.
  • Connects hoses from hand torch to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders or connects cables from power source to electrode holder and workpiece or fixture.
  • Starts gasoline engine to activate electric generators
  • Removes, tags or marks, and moves finished work.
  • May attach grappling equipment to objects preparatory to movement by crane

    QUALIFICATIONS  

  • 1st or 2nd year welding apprentice (preferred)
  • 3+ months of industrial/construction/general labor experience
  • Current/valid drivers license
  • Able work outdoors with a current zoom boom ticket
  • Ability to work with others to achieve job goals
  • Read, write and communicate using English language sufficient to perform job functions (other preferences will be given for special language skills where there is a business need)
  • Must pass pre-employment alcohol and drug test

  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Labourer

  • Based out of Whitecourt
  • Shift work of 17/4

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Assist with installation, testing and rigging of spools and materials
  • Identify and report hazards or unsafe work practices
  • Clean construction work areas and fuel equipment where needed.
  • Work with equipment operators and civil crew to complete grade and excavation work
  • Assist pipefitters and civil groups with their work
  • Assist heavy equipment operators to secure attachments to equipment, signal operators to guide them in safely moving equipment and provide assistance in other activities
  • Perform other activities at construction sites, as directed
  • Participate in pre-job toolbox meetings to identify potential hazards and measures to eliminate or minimize them
  • Correct unsafe acts and bring unsafe conditions to the attention of the immediate supervisor
  • Return tools (clean) back to the proper area after the job is complete or at the end of the shift
  • Ensure the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment while performing tasks 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Local candidates to the Edson area are preferred 
  • Grade 12 or GED
  • Standard First Aid, Ground Disturbance Level 2, fall protection, manlift training and confined space considered an asset
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Previous pipeline or facility specific construction experience is an asset
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Capable of working with small tools
  • Capable of working as part of a team
  • Fluent in speaking and reading English
  • Must be able to follow directions
