Lead Operator

PetroChina Canada (PCC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of PetroChina Company Limited which is partially owned by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), a state-owned enterprise. CNPC is China’s largest oil company and the world’s third largest oil company, operating 91 energy-related projects in over 35 countries and regions. PCC has invested billions of dollars in an asset-rich portfolio of upstream, midstream and downstream operations. In Alberta, this includes our MacKay River and Dover oilsands projects, Duvernay Shale Gas and a 50% interest in the Grand Rapids Pipeline. In British Columbia, we hold joint venture interests in the Groundbirch tight gas project and LNG Canada.

 

PetroChina Canada is recruiting for a Lead Operator to join the Duvernay Team. This is a field-based position with a rotation of 15 days on/13 days off.

 

The Lead Operator will be responsible for daily production operations and project activities while meeting production and capital project targets. The Lead Operator will support in optimizing plant and field efficiency, performance, troubleshooting and project commissioning schedules.

 

The accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for safety issues including hazard identification, equipment lock-out, emergency response, drills, and contractor inspections
  • Lead/organize safety meetings, production meetings and continuous improvement teams
  • Lead in development of area/site specific procedures
  • Support implementation of new training material and module updates
  • Provide leadership, promote team building and mentor field staff
  • Responsible for delegation of day-to-day operations
  • Troubleshoot process problems and identify opportunities for improvement and optimization
  • Track and maintain key performance indicators such as production and downtime
  • Monitor and control field processing conditions utilizing SCADA control systems
  • Responsible for coordinating contractors such as maintenance crews, vacuum trucks, and tank trucks with operations
  • Review work orders with maintenance personnel and coordinating scheduling of maintenance
  • Ensure effective communication and support with operations, maintenance, construction, engineering and management staff
  • Maintain proper documentation including operator log, maintenance records, safety and environmental reports
  • Provide Superintendent and O&M Coordinator support in aiding the Development/Property Teams with development plans and day-to-day operational and infrastructure advice
  • Act as operations Liaison for capital construction projects
  • Participate in design model, drawing and HAZOP reviews
  • Assist with MOC projects
  • Provide daily construction progress updates to the O&M Coordinator:
    • Provide design input with respect to operations, reliability and maintainability for the project facilities
    • Support and participate in vendor equipment and package reviews, shop inspection during the procurement cycle and performance testing
    • Review Cygnet control programming and graphics
    • Assist in planning and safe execution of construction, pre-commissioning, mechanical completion and turnover from construction to operations
    • Write and develop commissioning procedures (LOTO, GALT, and Purge) for Tie-in, Start-up and Critical tasks
    • Interface between construction and operation team
    • Lead pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, performance testing and handover to operations

 

Qualifications:

  • 3rd Class Power Engineering preferred
  • 10 years’ experience with a background in operations, project commissioning and technical management
  • Exposure to unconventional gas operations and/or project experience an asset
  • Evidence of strong leadership skills and ability to influence
  • Results orientated with effective delegation abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work well with diverse personalities and work force
  • Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritize work to achieve them

  • Manage time sheets, expenses and HOS regulations from employees as required
  • Work with Base Manager to oversee monthly, quarterly and yearly Base inventory levels
  • Work with Shop Foreman, E-Techs and third-party contractors regarding equipment maintenance and repairs

Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum ten years’ experience in Base Operations with field experience
  • Valid Driver’s licence
  • High school diploma
  • Extensive technical and practical knowledge of operations, products, company policies, and government regulations
  • Strong strategic leadership and managerial skills
  • Admirable interpersonal skills conveyed in a pleasant and professional manner when interacting with employees, management, and customers
  • Sound analytical and interpretational skills
  • Skilled in applying problem-solving techniques to complications that may arise
  • Skilled in supervision while exhibiting motivation, coaching, delegation, and training
  • Skilled in verbal and written communication
  • Ability to exhibit innovation, creativity, and self development

    LEAD COORDINATOR, CEMENT – RED DEER (RDC)

    To assist the Service Line Manager in all job-related coordination activities within the Service Line.

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensure that Trican’s core value, “Safe equipment and operations” is the priority in all activities

    • Work a 5 and 2 schedule while remaining on call
    • Ensure clear communication with Service Line Manager, Sales, Engineering and all Base Locations
    • Ensure customer needs are addressed in a timely manner, job procedures are followed; in addition to appropriate availability of product, equipment, and personnel
    • Establish and maintain effective communication with all bases to ensure resources of the company are utilized and shared on a company-wide basis
    • Work with the Cement Coordinators to organize and schedule personnel while ensuring resources are available and utilized adequately
    • Manage vacation and other requested time off for employees
    • Ensure all applicable paperwork is complete and submitted correctly
    • Work with Operations Lead, Cement regarding all maintenance for mobile equipment while ensuring all required repairs are completed in a timely and precise manner
    • Report operational deficiencies, accidents, and recognized hazards to management
    • Suggest improvement in working conditions, employee safety, policy, procedures, and operational practices
    • Ensure development needs of employee development are identified through collaboration with Operations Lead, Cement and Training Department

    Experience & Skills:

    • Minimum ten years’ experience in Cement Operations
    • Valid Driver’s licence
    • High school diploma
    • Extensive technical and practical knowledge of operations, products, company policies, and government regulations
    • Strong strategic leadership and managerial skills
    • Admirable interpersonal skills conveyed in a pleasant and professional manner when interacting with employees, management, and customers

Labourer

POSITION SUMMARY Strike’s Labourers assist skilled trade persons and perform labour activities at our various construction and project sites.   Employees are expected to support and participate in a “culture of safety”, and adhere to and be ambassadors of Strike’s Code of Conduct and Values, and to treat others with dignity, respect and fairness.   Note: This posting will be used to collect applications to fill current openings as well as anticipated future openings. Future openings are anticipated but not guaranteed.   PROJECT/POSITION DETAILS

  • Candidates local to the Edson area preferred

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Assist with installation, testing and rigging of spools and materials
  • Identify and report hazards or unsafe work practices
  • Clean construction work areas and fuel equipment where needed.
  • Work with equipment operators and civil crew to complete grade and excavation work
  • Assist pipefitters and civil groups with their work
  • Assist heavy equipment operators to secure attachments to equipment, signal operators to guide them in safely moving equipment and provide assistance in other activities
  • Perform other activities at construction sites, as directed
  • Participate in pre-job toolbox meetings to identify potential hazards and measures to eliminate or minimize them
  • Correct unsafe acts and bring unsafe conditions to the attention of the immediate supervisor
  • Return tools (clean) back to the proper area after the job is complete or at the end of the shift
  • Ensure the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment while performing tasks 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12 or GED
  • Standard First Aid, Ground Disturbance Level 2, fall protection, manlift training and confined space considered an asset
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Previous pipeline or facility specific construction experience is an asset
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Capable of working with small tools
  • Capable of working as part of a team
  • Fluent in speaking and reading English
  • Must be able to follow directions
