Environmental Specialist

SUMMIT, An Earth Services Company, is seeking a highly motivated reclamation and remediation professional to join the Reclamation, Remediation and Risk Management (RRRM) Division as an Environmental Specialist (Competition #25-02-0700) with a primary focus on environmental site assessments, reclamation and remediation work scopes. This is a full-time field position based out of our Lloydminster, AB, office.

 

What to Expect:

This role will be expected to support various work scopes across Western Canada with extensive field work both within and outside the Lloydminster area. You will be given the opportunity to gain experience in all facets of the reclamation and remediation industry including field work and reporting. You will also act as the in-field point of contact for Summit clients and help facilitate the success of project deliverables for the Reclamation Remediation and Risk Management team.

You will be supported by the entire Summit organization which consists of a dynamic team of Professional Engineers, Geologists, Biologists, Chemists and Agrologists, technical administrators, business development and health and safety professionals, and an in-house IT department.

 

JOB DUTIES:

You will carry out your duties in consultation with RRRM Project Managers. The primary duties include but are not limited to:

  • Onsite supervision or completion of a variety of environmental site assessments, surface reclamation (wellsite and associated facilities), and remediation
  • Project planning, coordination and management
  • Data interpretation, analysis and reporting
  • Budget preparation and control
  • Regulatory and third-party stakeholder interactions
  • Participation in company and client specific health and safety programs

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree or diploma from a recognized institution with a specialty in environmental engineering, agrology, conservation and reclamation, or geoscience
  • 2-3 years of consulting or industry experience in environmental site assessment and reclamation
  • Registration, or eligibility for registration, with a relevant professional organization (e.g. APEGA, APEGS, AIA, ASPB, AAFPA etc)
  • Introductory knowledge of reclamation guidelines and best practices
  • Introductory to advanced analytical and technical writing skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary project team environment
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to take initiative and ownership and work independently
  • Excellent multitasking and problem-solving skills

The following is considered an asset;

  • Pesticide Applicator’s License
  • Experience conducting environmental liability assessments in accordance with the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) Liability Management Program

Senior Technical Specialist

  • Some field responsibilities such as site visits and providing guidance to field personnel
  • Participation in company and client-specific health and safety programs

 

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years environmental experience in the upstream oil and gas sector
  • Professional sign off on contaminated sites work in Alberta and Saskatchewan
  • Thorough understanding of the regulations and processes for contaminated sites management in Alberta and Saskatchewan
  • Experience with Tier 2 guideline development, both pathway exclusion and site-specific guideline adjustments
  • Subsoil Salinity Tool experience and certification is considered an asset
  • Experience in human health or ecological risk assessments is considered an asset
  • Knowledge and experience with Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act approvals
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office software, including Teams

The following are considered an asset

  • Experience in rightsholder consultation (including regulatory consultation)
  • Hydrogeology experience
  • Consulting experience
  • Experience with OneStop, particularly with record of site condition submissions

Geologist

We are currently seeking a consulting Geologist immediately to work with our team and play a key role in designing and executing on the next phase of our drilling program, identifying optimization opportunities and contributing to field strategic decision making. This is a hands-on role requiring technical expertise, experience and a collaborative mindset that will report directly to the Vice President, Production & Operations.

Key Responsibilities

·         Collaborate with Geophysicist to design and refine drilling targets

·         Conduct geological assessments, mapping and subsurface modeling

·         Analyze data, core samples and logs to identify target opportunities

·         Recommend optimization strategies for well placement, completion and production

·         Support regulatory submissions and technical reporting

·         Provide insights into reservoir qualities

Qualifications

Geophysicist

We are currently seeking a full-time permanent Geophysicist immediately to work with our team and play a key role in executing on our next phase reservoir management plan. As we expand our production growth plan, we are seeking a talented and driven Geophysicist to join our team to optimize drilling outcomes and design full field development. You will play a critical role in interpreting and managing our existing seismic dataset, identifying targets and steer drilling to ensure we stay within structure. This position will work closely with our consulting Geologist to integrate geophysical insight into our broader development strategy, this position will report directly to the Vice President, Production & Operations.

Key Responsibilities

·         Focus on seismic data interpretation and analysis to help generate exploration ideas and help build existing drilling inventory

·         Collaboration to help delineate drilling targets, help with drill survey planning, completion and design

·         Evaluate existing 2D and 3D datasets to help characterize target formations

·         Generate interpretations based on integrating geophysical data

·         Collaborate with team to help build long term field development plan

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree in Geophysicts

·         10+ years of experience in oil and gas exploration and development

·         Proven track record in drilling program design and optimization

·         Strong understanding of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin

·         Proficiency in geophysical software required

·         Excellent communication and teamwork skills

·         A successful candidate must be able to work independently within a team environment
