Project Controller/Scheduler

POSITION SUMMARY Project Controllers/Schedulers are responsible for the overall delivery of project controls including planning and scheduling, estimating, cost management, trend and change management, progress measurement and evaluation, reporting, and project accounting. The Project Controller will provide technical and management support to the field construction operations team for a progress monitoring tool.
Employees are expected to support and participate in a “culture of safety”, adhere to and be ambassadors of Strike’s Code of Conduct and Values, act professional and amicable, and to treat others with dignity, respect, and fairness.   Note: This posting will be used to collect applications to fill current openings as well as anticipated future openings. Future openings are anticipated but not guaranteed.
POSITION DETAILS

  • 40-50 hrs/week
  • Office Location Crossfield, Alberta

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Prepare complex reports in Excel for internal and external distribution
  • Provide technical support for various in-house progress tracking and scheduling applications
  • Provide support of the creation and maintenance of the project schedule and provides ongoing updates to project stakeholders
  • Maintain and evaluate project progress including earned value management on a regular basis
  • Implement the cost management process including assisting with budget and chart of account development
  • Review and validate production quantity and invoices
  • Assist with change management functions with creation of proposals and field
  • Continuously improve project administrative processes and procedures to enhance efficiencies for the projects. Monitor procedures and practices, thinking creatively and strategically to create improvements.
  • Other duties, as required
  • Experience in building, maintaining, and analyzing schedules in P6
  • Supports construction to define scope of work, construct schedule, analyze data, extract reports, determine critical paths/milestones, etc.
  • Using metrics to analyze, monitor progress on project activities and forecast completion costs based on trends, including productivity trends, labor rates analysis, commitments, change management, schedule impacts, establishing differences in initial estimate and final project costs. Input, interpret and analysis cost information providing output to the team of status and variance against budget.
  • Develop and prepare status reports and other related project planning and control documentation
  • Assist in tracking, analyzing and reporting on man hours
  • Oversee the preparation of internal project review reports and attends/presents information in project review meetings

  QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of experience in Project Controls
  • Experience with engineering and construction-based cost and scheduling systems (Productivity, performance measurement, progress tracking, change management, etc.)
  • Oil and Gas construction experience preferred
  • Must have experience in Primavera P6 scheduling software
  • Proficient with spreadsheets, Microsoft excel, and word processing software
  • Understanding on how Forecasting, SPI, CPI, PF and EV are calculated using P6

  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities are required; organizational skills and attention to detail are required
  • Knowledge of MS Office required; advanced level knowledge of MS Excel required
  • Capable of responding to project stakeholder requests in typical situations and understands client needs and works to meet those needs by offering assistance and advice on standard practical issues
  • Accomplished professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Capable of working independently with minimal direction

HSE Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

The HSE Coordinator works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide Management and Front-line Supervision client groups with guidance and support for the continual implementation and monitoring of the Strike Health, Safety and Environment Management System and related standards. This position requires a strong collaborative working style within at the respective project sites, with a focus on activities at the work face.

  • Shop/Module Yard Work
  • 40-50 hrs/week
  • Shop Location: Crossfield, Alberta

  CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Assist operations management and employees with HSEMS and Safe Work Manuals
  • Develop and test emergency response plans (ERP) and Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSP)
  • Work with manager and superintendent on daily basis to coordinate activities such as SSSPs, pre-job HIACs, site visits/inspections, incident reports and other daily HSE matters
  • Organize, prepare and contribute to regular safety meetings
  • Assist in the development of and then communicate and train on safe job procedures, safe work practices, and codes of practice
  • Assist with worker injury resolution, modified work programs and WCB claims management
  • Administer, review, mentor, analyze/trend and follow up on safety observation cards (SOC) on a regular basis
  • Monitor near misses and assist operational leaders to address, corresponding with severity
  • Assist and advise on hazard identification, assessment and control (HIAC)
  • Support the implementation and execution of Strike’s Alcohol & Drug policy and program. This typically involves, but is not limited to, coordinating testing and transportation of worker(s) to testing facilities.
  • Assist in coordination of online training delivered through Strike eSchool
  • Maintain material safety data sheets (MSDS) inventory in hardcopy and electronic format
  • Conduct safety activities, worksite inspections and safety observations. Assist with coaching where necessary
  • Participate in contractor management health and safety assessments
  • Assist in general site safety management, inspect and provide safety assistance for duration of project/field job
  • Monitor and inventory PPE and safety supplies and assist in procurement
  • Coordinate and oversee the inspection and maintenance of safety equipment and PPE including items such as atmospheric monitors, harnesses, fire extinguishers, etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of pre-job meetings and facilitate when required
  • Lead or assist in incident investigations
  • Coordinate/audit/train NSC requirements and activities
  • Assist with trending statistics, reporting and tracking
  • Assume a leadership role in ensuring the timeliness, thoroughness and accuracy of data/workflow process within the incident management system
  • Participate in contractor management assessments (pre-qualification, field evaluation, post-job assessment)
  • Conduct and/or coordinate driver evaluations as part of the FSJM program
  • Advise management teams on training requirements and provide ongoing training status
  • Maintain on-site presence and offer staff support, coaching, in adhering to Strike’s HSEMS
  • Conduct on-site orientation of new employees, ISPs, and subcontractors. In certain projects/jobs assist with the delivery and confirm site specific orientations are being completed
  • Train and coach additional HSE personnel (i.e. Site HSE Coordinator, Administrator) per organizational and/or BU needs
  • Train staff on proper use of safety equipment and accompanying documentation
  • Train staff on HIAC process and the use of HIAC tools (forms, relevant documentation)

​QUALIFICATIONS Education

  • Relevant diploma or bachelor’s degree (e.g. business administration, trade certificate) is preferred
  • Completion of an occupational health and safety program from a recognized post-secondary institution is considered an asset
  • CSO or CRSP designation preferred

Experience

  • Three years of experience in progressive safety management in the construction industry

Knowledge & Skills

  • Must possess a valid, non-GDL driver’s license
  • Adept at WCB claims management
  • Proficient in OHS legislation in multiple jurisdictions
  • Developed analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Capable of participating in and facilitating group meetings

Intermediate/Senior Environmental Specialist

SUMMIT, An Earth Services Company is seeking a highly motivated and experienced intermediate or senior level environmental professional to join the Corporate Integration & Special Projects (CISP) Division as an Environmental Specialist (Competition #25-09-0724) with a primary focus on Environmental Spill Response and Management work scopes. This is a full-time field position based out of our Calgary, AB office.

Job Duties:

You will carry out your duties in consultation with Director, CISP. The primary duties include but are not limited to:

  • Technical guidance on spills in various stages of the program, including containment, environmental impact assessments, wildlife life and habitat management, and reporting
  • Technical oversight and input on a variety of reclamation site assessments, wellsite, facility and pipeline surface reclamation projects (which may involve surface abandonment)
  • Project planning, coordination and management
  • Supervision and mentorship of field and office staff as required
  • Data interpretation, analysis and reporting
  • Detailed and accurate cost tracking and reporting
  • Maintenance of client relationships
  • Regulatory and third-party stakeholder interactions
  • Participation in company and client specific health and safety programs

You will be supported by the entire Summit organization which consists of a dynamic team of Professional Engineers, Geologists, Biologists, Chemists and Agrologists, technical administrators, business development and health and safety professionals, and an in-house IT department.

Qualifications:

  • University degree or diploma from a recognized institution with a specialty in environmental engineering, agrology, conservation and reclamation, or geoscience
  • 5+ years of consulting or industry experience in environmental site assessment and reclamation
  • Registration as a member (professional or in-training) in good standing of a recognized applicable Professional Association, including but not limited to AIA, ASPB, APEGA, or ACPA.
  • Proficient with Alberta and Saskatchewan regulations and guidelines related to surface reclamation
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary project team environment
  • Working knowledge of Alberta and/or Saskatchewan reclamation and remediation guidelines and best practices

Tank Farm Operator (7/7, camp) – Conklin, Alberta

Our customer, a busy oil and gas company, is looking for a Tank Farm Operator in the Conklin, AB area for a 3-6 month term with the potential to turn into a long term opportunity.  The successful candidate will be responsible for dewatering tanks and monitoring and communicating with the truck operator during loading and off-loading of product. This position will be running on a 7/7 schedule, working 12 hour days and nights.  Camp accommodations are provided. 
 
Additional requirements include:

  • Previous oil and gas experience an asset
  • Continuing education or post-secondary new grad from oil and gas related discipline would be preferred
  • Valid H2S and First Aid ticket
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and clean abstract (No Graduted Driver's License)
